The Greyhound Diaries Document Doug Levitt’s Adventures Across America

Traveling across the country is an adventure, but traveling over 100,000 miles in a Greyhound bus is an extravaganza. Doug Levitt took a decade and made the trip several times, documenting it by writing and singing songs, producing two albums, and displaying photo exhibits all included in The Greyhound Diaries.

Many of his writings have been published that cover his adventures including The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, The Huffington Post, The Sunday Times of London, and The Christian Science Monitor. His project has been seen on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, and he has thousands of fans around the world and learn more about Doug.

Before Doug set out on his this amazing trip, he was a foreign correspondent based in London. He traveled the globe, often being dispatched to Iran, Rwanda, and Bosnia, and developed a broad range of opinions and interests. Doug Levitt made friendships in his journeys with other travelers, most of which were in a compromised season of their lives and were struggling to get by.

Doug has performed sections of The Greyhound Diaries in many different venues such as shelters, ex-offender programs, Walter Reed Military Hospital, The Kennedy Center and the Woody Guthrie Center. The photos are graphic and real, and they expose the raw essence of traveling Greyhound customers. Levitt expertly captures fellow travelers engaging in life in his writings both literally and figuratively that with descriptions of everyday situations.

Doug Levitt is now 45, and he enjoys performing the project in one venue or another. Born in 1972, he spent his childhood in Washington, D.C., attending public schools with his parents’ careers spent in the political arena. When he was 16, a life-changing event occurred when his father committed suicide. Doug mentions this as the experience that was instrumental in choosing his pathway of becoming an artist, and Levitt combines all his talents in The Greyhound Diaries and Doug’s lacrosse camp.
